Local Rules 2023

LOCAL RULES ARE IN ADDITION TO THE RULES OF GOLF AS APPROVED BY THE ROYAL AND ANCIENT GOLF CLUB OF ST. ANDREWS.

FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY REASONS ALL PLAYERS ARE REMINDED TO SIGN IN AND OBTAIN A START TEE TIME AT THE CLUB SHOP OR THE BAR PRIOR TO STARTING THEIR ROUND.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT NO DENIMS, SHELLSUITS OR TRACKSUITS ARE ALLOWED ON THE COURSE.

PLEASE REPLACE DIVOTS, RAKE BUNKERS AFTER USE AND REPAIR ALL PITCHMARKS ON GREENS.

ALL PLAYERS SHOULD LEAVE THE COURSE VIA THE FRONT LEFT OF THE 18th GREEN.

  1. BOUNDARIES
    The Boundaries of the course, except where stated below, are the walls, fences, hedges and marking posts bounding the course.
    EXCEPTIONS
    The areas within the course boundaries that are Out of Bounds;
    The marked Area around the Clubhouse extended to the fence adjacent the 9th Green (Note that the Road and Staff Car Park and Greenkeepers’ Bothy are all Out of Bounds)
  2. PENALTY AREAS
    a) All ditches and streams on the course marked with Yellow Stakes and Red Stakes.
    b) The marsh area between the 4th and 6th fairways is designated a Red Penalty Area

All other unmarked ditches are drainage ditches and should be treated as NO PLAY AREAS.

  1. NO PLAY AREAS
    All areas of the course marked with blue stakes or blue lines.
  2. PATHS, TRACKS AND BRIDGES
    All paths, wheel and tractor tracks anywhere on the course, the Quarry Access Road and all bridges shall be treated as ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS.
  3. EMBEDDED STONES
    A ball resting against a surface rock or a piece of embedded stone blasted from the quarry, or so close to a piece of such stone that the said stone cannot be removed without moving the ball, relief may be taken without penalty.
  4. POWER CABLES AND PYLONS
    Should a player’s ball strike either the Power Cables or the Pylons anywhere on the course the player must replay the shot, without penalty, it is not an option to play the ball as it lies.
  5. VENT FLUES AND DRAINAGE MANHOLE COVERS
    The Ground Ventilation Flues and Drainage Manhole Covers on the course are designated IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS. Free relief may be taken under Rule 16.1b.
  6. DRAINAGE PIPES/COLLECTION PITS TO THE RIGHT OF 12th HOLE.
    Designated as IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS. Free relief may be taken under Rule 16.1b.
  7. LARGE ROCK BETWEEN 8TH AND 12th FAIRWAYS
    The large rock between the 8th and 12th fairways is designated as an Integral Object. If a ball lies near or on this Integral Object, or the Integral Object interferes with a players intended swing or stance, the player may take relief from the Integral Object under penalty of 1 stroke.
  1. 15TH TEE / APPROACH TO 14TH GREEN
    All players must allow the group in front to PLAY FROM AND CLEAR the 15th Tee prior to playing ANY approach shot to the 14th green. The group playing the 15th MUST pass the designated Black and White markers before the group behind attempt to play to the 14th green

Preferred Lies – rules 11 and 12. These must be  initiated by notice from the club. Rule 11 applies to a ball in the ‘rough’ and rule 12 applies to a ball on the fairway or on grass cut to fairway length  Note – these rules do not apply in Penalty Areas where the ball must be played as it lies

11.When a player’s ball lies in the general area the ball may be lifted cleaned and replaced without penalty. The player must mark the spot before lifting the ball and the ball must be replaced on its original spot

12. When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area cut to fairway height or less the player may take free relief by lifting and cleaning the ball The player must mark the spot before lifting the ball and the ball must be replaced within 15cm.of the original spot  (The player must mark the spot before lifting the ball) The ball must be replaced not nearer the hole and must be replaced in the general area

Rules 11 and 12  are based on Model Rules from Scottish Golf/R&A  Model Local Rule E-2A – and Model Local Rule E-3

INDEMNITY

All golfers and visitors use the facilities of Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club entirely at their own risk.

Course users are cautioned to take extra care on the Golf Course when negotiating footpaths, bridges, uneven ground and water courses.
